I was diagnosed 4 yrs ago and just had my first blood transfusion a month ago Now they want to give me shots every two weeks to try and make my bone marrow make healthy red blood cells. Has anyone had these shots?
Happy New Year! I've personally never heard of this. I've attached a link to possible posts that may provide similar experiences. You may also pose the question on our Facebook for an open response as well. Wishing you the very best!
@Ruth The world of cancer treatment continues to evolve so rapidly that it is not surprising to find a new or different approach surfacing. My own treatment apparently was rather new and actually need to be modified so that my body could take it. Hopefully someone here has had your experience . One bit of advice I would offer is do not be timid about asking questions of your MDs . Heck often record my conversations with them andtell them so - - Amazing on how much clearer the explanation becomes

I have had the patch that the put on that helps your bone marrow regenerate it's cells etc. It isn't exactly the same but it's similar. I had some bone pain and other mild side effects but in the end it worked pretty well for what it was. I hope that helps somewhat, but just know you are not alone and we will be here to help however we can. Keep on keepin' on, DPM

, There are different types of treatment for MDS. This would include blood transfusions, drug therapy, and supportive care. Supportive care includes: administering growth factors to boost red blood cells, boost platelets or boost white blood cells. I thought I'd share this article that goes into greater detail: https://blood-cancer.com/treatment/mds-myelodysplastic. Sending you all my best, Doreen (Team Member)
