What are the pros and cons of oral versus intravenous chemotherapy?

I had chemo 44 years ago. After the port was removed the area was infected and took a long time to heal. There is hardly a scar visible today.

I went the port route once I understood the need for the many draws for testing + the actual infusions. Veins, I learned, can only take so much, and rather than risk an issue, I signed up for the port. While it was suggested the process was a quick in-and-out procedure, it involved much more than I would have expected. It was removed 18 months later, and the surgical scar has all but disappeared. I was diagnosed with AML 5 mos. ago. I have been on oral chemo drugs ever since. ( Venetoclax and Inqovi), a combination drug. Im scared that because of my age (71), the Oncologist has decided to order drugs that aren't as effective as the IV meds.
Probably totally no reason to fear...

I should add, I have a PICC line in place for the many blood draws.
