Pharmaceutical Patient Assistance Limitations

Hi, all - Over the past ten years, I have been fortunate that pharmaceutical companies have allowed me to enroll in patient assistance programs to have financial access to my target therapy for blood cancer.

Now, turning 70, I have been advised to start withdrawing monies from my 401k's, but to be careful not to exceed the allowed income levels that would endanger my participation in these programs. Has anyone dealt with this issue? I'm not wealthy, but I do have a few resources after working decades, saving, and investing (sometimes none too wisely). Currently, I am enrolled in the Novartis patient assistance program. Any advise regarding the annual declared income that would exceed these guidelines for participation would be appreciated. Thank you!!!

  1. I don't have personal experience in this area, but I'm attaching an article that has some good resources listed. Perhaps some answers will be included there. I wish you luck as you continue on your journey!

      1. This is a great point! I would also suggest speaking with your accountant about how this changes if any in regard to your 401K. The resources mentioned prior should be helpful as well. Wishing you the very best!
