My Experience With Delta8

I do not do well with physical pain. Not that many people do, but I feel like I especially don't tolerate it well. I'm in awe of people who get up and go on with their day anyway. I can't do that.

So when I started having excruciating back pain due to being in bed for six months during my blood cancer treatment I was at a loss of what to do. I had to still work and take care of myself and my poor cat. Then I heard about CBD.

I do like CBD, but unfortunately, it's never been strong enough to help me with my pain. It's great for my anxiety, though! I don't know if it's because of the brand I bought or my genetics, but I needed something else. The store clerk mentioned Delta8 to me to try and gave me a sample.

What is Delta8?

According to the National Library of Medicine’s website, “Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as delta-8 THC, is a psychoactive substance found in the Cannabis sativa plant, of which marijuana and hemp are two varieties. Delta-8 THC is one of over 100 cannabinoids produced naturally by the cannabis plant but is not found in significant amounts in the cannabis plant. As a result, concentrated amounts of delta-8 THC are typically manufactured from hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD).”1

I tell people Delta8 is a synthetic form of marijuana. I don't know if that's technically correct, but it's how I feel it's best explained to people who aren't quite familiar with THC. It's a legal form of marijuana where I live in Texas. It's still able to help with pain and can get you high if you take enough. But it's not exactly straight Mary Jane.

But it helped

I took a bite of a chocolate ball that was flavored with peanut butter. It was tasty, but I could definitely taste something bitter about it which I assume was the Delta8. Almost immediately I felt the pain melt away. I wasn't used to edibles so I took way too much my first time and got way too high. Although that honestly didn't bother me, but I don't recommend it if it's not something you're used to. But I was amazed at how well it worked. I went back to the store the next day and bought a whole bag. Since my tolerance was so low I only had to take one small bite a day, so the bag lasted me months. It was only about $25 so it was very inexpensive.

Side effects

Now obviously I'm not telling you to go out and buy Delta8 or Delta9 (another form that people say tends to be stronger). You should always consult with a medical professional. Not a lot of studies have been done with these products yet so they come with their own set of cautious. I know for me personally, if I took too much, I could become nauseous if I didn't eat enough, I couldn't drive, and it could cause me to forget to do things if I got too high. But that being said, it was the only thing that took away my pain without opiods. I don't even know if those would work honestly.

Warm wishes, Katelynn
