Mental status

I know mentally going through trials and tribulations can be very difficult. What drives you mentally to continue to fight? Especially at times when the odds are against you.

  1. Good question. Several years ago, I was at a low point like I am now. I was starting physical therapy after a bad achilles tendon tear and I could barely walk. I was watching the other patients working on machines, etc. and felt defeated, like I could never do it. Then I remembered my mom (who passed away 10 years ago). Well into her 80s, she would always try, try, try--be it a treadmill or exercise bike or just to get around with a cane and/or walker. I thought "if she could do it, I can do it." I have to remind myself that she didn't raise a quitter and eventually get my mojo back when it fades. Easier said than done sometimes, so I guess I look to those memories for inspiration.

    2. I believe the story you tell yourself over and over in your head and continue to reinforce is the driver that lets you move forward OR if you choose to do so abandon your hopes for the future - Somehow the former sounds like more fun. Dennis (Blood-Cancer.com TEAM)

  2. What keeps me going is remembering that I dont always need a plan I just need to breathe, trust and let go and see what happens

    1. The little train "I think I can - I think I can" moves my drive to "I know I can - I know I can". Sometimes it's about mind over matter.

      1. What keeps me going is knowing that there is always so much more to see and do with the people I love. The bad days are overshadowed by the good days, even when there are more bad days. The good days make it all worthwhile.

        1. yes!
