Hydroxyurea
I've been taking Hydroxyurea, 1000 mg a day for almost 6 years now.
My platelet numbers hang out between 350-450 on average.
I know the medication itself could give me cancer my Dr. told me that.
I feel fine, but my main concern is having to take medication for life, the long term effects from it.
Hi! I unfortunately don't have any experience with this medication. I'm hoping someone who does will chime in here, but in the mean time, if you haven't already speaking to your doctor about your concerns would be the best course of action. I can't give you any medical advice for your safety. But I do know from moderating on the site that a lot of people take various medications that are meant for the rest of their lives, with side effects and are still able to have a good quality of life.
