Holiday Rescues

Now that everyone is out and about in the world, what will be some of your holiday go-to's as the year winds down?

I know it's been a rough stretch for many but how will you reflect, celebrate, chill, or not?

Mine will be cooking and baking.

  1. I will be visiting my daughter and grandkids in VA 😀 for the holidays and also looking around at buying a home in either Charlottsville or Williamsburg. Figure doing some preliminary research is a good idea if I decide to pull up stakes and make the move to a warmer location . Dennis (Blood-Cancer.com TEAM)

    1. It's definitely a lot, and sometimes you gotta follow the emotional support aspect of it. I know many try it alone or have no one to consider otherwise, but being near familiar faces isn't too bad. Best!

    2. Hear you! Being near family is important When I was in the hospital with COVID pneumonia and could not see visitors it really hit me - When I was there with cancer family could visit - to be totally alone when you are ill is emotionally challenging . Dennis (Blood-Cancer.com TEAM)

  2. For me I will spend my holidays with my mom and dogs. For Thanksgiving I think I’m going to grab a plate to go and eat with my dad in the cemetery I know that sounds kind of morbid but thanksgiving and Christmas was exciting times for my dad and I want to hang with him for those holidays. I’ll play some music 🎶 🥹♥️♥️♥️

    1. I don't think it's morbid. A lot of people do that 😀 I actually want to visit my grandparents next time I'm in NJ. I have a lot to talk to them about lol.

    2. I just visited my mom 2 weeks ago with the whole family in tow. It makes me feel better and pray she gets some reassurance she's not forgotten. I totally get it, Amanda! Best!

  3. Yup - It is not about how people think you should grieve that matters. We all grieve differently. What is important is for you to do what feels right for you. I have been doing a lot of work lately when it comes to grieving. And as much as I hate to say it the best approach appears to be engage it and let it pass.

None of us can be smiling and happy 100% of the time. The same is true of grief. Embrace it, let it pass and move on. Over time the number of "unexpected grief ambushes" become less frequent. Dennis(Blood-Cancer.com TEAM)

    1. Naw, that's not morbid. Just because their no longer here, they are and always will be in our thoughts and hearts. Their lives and memories stay alive through us, as well as we pass on our memories to our kids, friends and relatives.
As for the holidays, since I can't travel anymore, I celebrate with the wife. And I still have two grown boys still home. Sometimes my daughter and her husband come up for the holidays also. Looks like they're coming up this spring instead this time though. I do most of the cooking throughout the year, since I love to cook. Then I let my wife have the kitchen for the holidays since there's a lot of baking going on. I can bake, just don't have the patience for baking...lol. Shane (Blood-cancer team member)

      1. Awesome, you're a rare find! Enjoy your holiday! Best!

      2. ha ha ha...my wife tells me. I'm a keeper!!
