A TV showing a patient leader and the words "you are a survivor"

You Are a Survivor!

One of the first terms I heard when I was first diagnosed with blood cancer was about "Survivorship."

Everyone with blood cancer is a survivor

It doesn't take long before you are very aware that whenever you are in the presence of anyone who has ever had blood cancer, you will immediately hear, "I am a survivor." So, I connected it with being in remission. I was amazed to learn that we are considered survivors from the moment we are first diagnosed. And that makes sense! Because we sure are fighting from the beginning!! LOL!

Understanding that has helped my view of what it means to be a survivor and survive. No matter how much or how little I do, with each breath I take, I am surviving. That is so empowering and yet liberating!
