Treatment vs. Treatment
The beauty of words is that most of the time they can mean different things to different people. Sometimes that's a good thing, sometimes it's not. In this day of strong views on social justice, and just a mix-up on all that is happening in 2020, the word treatment came up somewhere in my mix of daily news and conversation and I thought why not touch upon it.
The word treatment means the act or manner of treating, action, or behavior towards a person. Management in the application of medicines, surgery, etc.
I find it interesting that the word holds these important factors that a person going through blood cancer or any cancer can truly relate to in more ways than one.
The way we treat each other
So again, it was something on the news that popped up and in my mind, I had a whole reflection on the meaning of this word and it’s such a huge deal for so many reasons. First, I want to start with the way we treat each other, or mainly the way a person with cancer wants to be treated.
No one knows the struggle of the walk until they’ve walked in our shoes. It is not easy and you want a medical team that not only knows what they’re doing but that shows some form of empathy when they work with you. It’s fair to say that no form of education, degree, certification, or experience goes far without some bit of empathy along the way.
You can’t treat cancer or work with a patient with cancer without truly grasping the importance of empathy here. Patients vary and not all of us follow along despite in some cases not receiving the nicest delivery. Treatment is thinking outside of the box of how you want to be treated if the cards were reversed. It’s clear that even as we deal with this bizarre virus, the idea of wearing a mask that may help people like us is not unanimous in being the right thing to do. You know that quote I’ve coined below on integrity and grace well that’s real to the core.
Treating our blood cancer
Okay, so that grueling process for whatever forms it may be in chemotherapy. Some of us may not like the dramatics of the term chemotherapy, so we coin it chemo for short or just plain old treatment. Hard choice for many to make but the goal of survival is real simple. We do what we gotta do with those words again, integrity, and grace interconnected.
Treatment of treatment a simple play on words but follow me here: something about that empathy I spoke about goes hand in hand. The hand that touches to help heal plays a huge part in our healing and the medicine also has a hand in getting us well hold strong synchronic. If there’s no care in being genuine while providing our meds, well our mind and body can sense this.
Positive energy is so important and though sometimes it’s not followed it can make a huge difference in how we get along in healing our bodies, but we need to watch who we allow in our space, and how care is administered. Treatment vs. Treatment goes hand in hand.
The time to fight is now, with integrity, grace, hope, and a smile... when you feel like it
