Sky high Platelets and Ferritin with MDS

Hi there,

I was diagnosed with MDS two years ago.

Yesterday my bloodwork showed very high Platelets (1,070) and Ferritin (400).

My Doctor is confused and said I'm a "puzzle".

I am scheduled for a CT scan on Thursday. I've never had one before.

I am going to start taking an aspirin every day.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had very high Platelets and Ferritin in their CBC, and what diagnosis was given.

Thanks so much!

Bonnie

  1. Are you taking aspirin on a daily basis at the suggestion of your Medical team? A CT scan is rather routine I have had several. Dennis(Blood-Cancer.com TEAM)

    1. I just started taking it today. I had my blood result yesterday late in the afternoon.

The only bad thing about the CT is I need to take Prednisone 3x before as I'm pretty allergic to the contrast dye and my throat closes up when they inject it.

  2. "Wow, frankly, I have never seen that before." Do you know how many times I have heard that from doctors? More than I can count. So much so that now I just chuckle and say, "again? I should write a book." It's staggering the amount of things doctors don't really know. Just know that you are not alone, and that many of us have been there too! For me it was when my RA meds and chemo meds combined and I told them flat out "I'm not stopping my RA meds to take the chemo, I'll sign a waiver." They said OK, we are in uncharted waters though, here's your waiver. LOL Keep on keepin' on, DPM

    1. Oh thank you. I really appreciate your advice. I told my Doctor on the way out - "If it's rare or no one has every heard of it before, I'm your girl."

Should know more by the end of the week. Getting an abdominal ultrasound and a CT.

Thanks so much for your comment!

      1. Hoping all goes well with your ultrasound. Best!

    2. Thank you!
