Blue Toes

I have had Polycythemia Vera for four years now and I'm suffering from Polycythemia toes or Blue Toes. The big toes on each foot are swollen, red, raw and even bleeding. Very sore to walk on. I went to a Podiatrist and ended up spending a lot of money on creams that made it worse. Now I'm on antibiotics from my doctor. She is saying maybe I need a Vascular doctor. Has anyone suffered from this? Any suggestions? Please!

  1. I didn't have this exactly, but I did get neuropath in my hands when I was on chemo. They turned a little blue but mostly were just tingly and numb and at night I would get pains. I think the best bet is to get with your cancer doc and ask them what they think is the best course of action. I'm not sure if a podiatrist is the best thing, there might be ones who specifically specialize in treating cancer and diabetes feet patients, depending your area. I ended up having to wear the carpal tunnel splints when I typed to make it less worse, which helped a tiny bit but not really. Thankfully it eventually went away on it's own and in the meantime I used the over the counter lidocaine cream. It seemed to help somewhat, but let us know if there's anything else we can do when you check with your oncologist. Keep on keepin' on, DPM

    1. I am scheduled to see a wound clinic and possibly do a hyperbaric chamber.

    2. Wow, well, I wish you the best of luck, let us know how it goes. Those sound like a hassle and stressful so just remember you are not alone! If you need anything from here just ask! Keep on keepin' on, DPM
