"AML diagnosis only a week ago. Bone marrow aspirate 4 days ago. f/u app't with Oncologist in 5 more days, where we will talk treatment. More than a little nervous here!"

  1. it's understandable that you are feeling nervous. Not knowing exactly what lies ahead can certainly invoke those feelings. Have you seen the oncologist yet? Hoping that getting a clearer understanding of what is going on and a plan to monitor and potentially treat it will ease some of your nervousness. In my experience, anticipation is often the hardest part. The best we can do is take one step at a time. Know that we are here to support you. And please keep us posted on what you find out. Wishing you peace on your journey!

  2. It's totally normal to be nervous. You are facing a big unknown. Based on my own experience as an AML survivor (15 years post-stem cell transplant), it gets easier when you have a plan. Your mind then has something to focus on instead of going all over the place. I hope you don't mind my asking, but where do you live? We are lucky to live in a country that has so many wonderful cancer centers in it. I was treated at Dana-Farber, in Boston, Mass., about 90 miles from my home and worth the drive. You probably already know this, but it helps to write down your questions and bring them to the appointment. It will help you remember them during the appointment, and it can keep your mind from running all over the place while you wait. I always bring a newspaper or some light reading to focus on if the wait time becomes excessive. I don't know about you, but the longer I wait, the more chances I have for my brain to go down the rabbit hole filled with "what ifs." Maybe by the time you get this you will have had that appointment. Either way, please know that you are not alone in this, and let us know how you are doing. Ronni (team member)
