 Yes I did sign up for it. I sure would love to get it. I do have a question regarding a different medicine my Dr is going to try me on. Called Mylearan. Wondering if it's effective and if the side effects are as harsh as hydroxeua. I was going to get to take Jakifi but I couldnt afford it. Also I have extreme fatigue and a pretty constant cough if I do too much. Insomnia is constant. I seem to be very depressed about it all. I used to be so active. My sleeve is enlarged. And went from ET to PV Jak2 V617F Mut to now myelofibrosis. With in 2 yrs. I just turned 70.

My husband is the epitome of a "survivor". He was diagnosed with myelofibrosis 5 years ago and battled the disease with the utmost grace and determination. He became educated about the disease, he joined online groups to share his story and learn others', he pursued clinical trials and spent many hours at the hospital getting blood transfusions due to his rapidly dropping hemoglobin (walking up a flight of stairs would leave him winded). He was told that his bone marrow was failing and that a stem cell transplant was his only option if he wanted to live more than another year or two. When there were no suitable matches found in the worldwide donor registry, doctors recommended a haploidentical transplant using our son's stem cells. The fall of 2022 is a blur . . . filled with close to 30 tests and procedures to ensure that my husband could survive the intense chemotherapy necessary for a stem cell transplant. On October 20th he was admitted to hospital and began the ultimate fight for his life with 7 days of chemo, the day of his actual stem cell transplant, 2 more days of a special chemo drug for Haplo transplant patients, and 23 days of tortuous waiting for engraftment of the stem cells, during which time he suffered all the nasty side effects of chemo. He developed a deadly infection from the Hickman line then acute kidney failure from the powerful antibiotic that was used to treat the infection. As he watched other transplant patients come and go from his room, it was hard not to feel deflated when he was kept in even longer in order to get his creatinine under control (those numbers had skyrocketed because of the kidney failure). Yet through it all, he was polite, engaging and grateful to every single medical professional that he dealt with. The day he was finally released from the hospital was surreal ~ he felt like a convict escaping from prison. After 7 weeks of horrible hospital food, we celebrated with a burger and onion rings from A&W. For some reason that is exactly what his body was craving! For the next 3 months we stayed in a rental condo that was near the hospital and our goal was to do everything possible to stay healthy, get strong and go home. Between frequent out patient visits, we went for short walks around the condo building, and as his strength and stamina increased we began walking around the neighbourhood. Fully masked we did our best to embrace our time in "the big city", exploring neighbourhoods, walking on the beach (in the middle of winter), discovering various botanical gardens and treating ourselves to the odd takeout dinner. On Day 100 we were allowed to return home, which was both frightening and exciting at the same time. We craved the peace and quiet of our own home, yet it was a little unnerving to know that the doctors and the hospital were a 1.5 hour drive plus an hour and 40 minute ferry ride. Fast forward 7 months and those neighbourhood walks have increased to longer and more challenging trail walks. This past week we hiked 6.3 kilometres (4 miles) up a mountain with a HUGE elevation gain. My husband still deals with gvhd of the skin and mouth, but that is all part of the recovery process. He has not only survived but he has thrived. After thirty years of chronic illnesses including lymphoma, I can certainly identify with months-long fights for your life like he went through! I have been there, sad to say, and I, also, am still here, still standing! My spouse wasn’t able to handle it and left, but I have a wonderful mom who stands by me! I'm glad you were able to sign up for the giveaway, Diana. For your safety, we are unable to answer any medical questions. There may be others here who have been prescribed the drugs you mentioned and can share their personal experiences. But we recommend you ask your doctor and medical team to find those particular answers, if you haven't already. The symptoms you mentioned are all very common with a blood cancer diagnosis. It's definitely a life changing transition when we're not able to do the things we were used to doing, and we notice body changes. That has definitely been my biggest challenge in my own blood cancer journey. Most of us here have experienced similar feelings, so we see you and support you.
