Shocked by Diagnosis

In February I began feeling what I believed to be a pulled muscle which only worsened. Eventually, I saw my GP followed by a visit to an orthopedic specialist, and I was diagnosed with arthritis in my hip and lower back. Since the pain continued to worsen I had blood work done and had an MRI of my hip and spine. The blood work was basically clean however the MRI had an anomalous signal in the bone marrow.

Based on the MRI I was referred to a hematologist/oncologist who had a bone marrow biopsy done. The biopsy resulted in a diagnosis of Lambda Light Chain Multiple Myeloma with 90% of my marrow containing the cancerous Plasma cells. The next step was to put together a great team of doctors to help me kick the crap out of this cancer. The team is in place with a world leader in research and successful treatment of this disease, Dr Sundar Jagannath at Mt. Sinai in NYC, and a fantastic hematologist/oncologist,  Dr. Thomas Blom in Princeton who has been helping others beat this for years.

So in a little more than 3 months, I have gone from an assumed pulled muscle to treatment of this aggressive cancer.
